The swimming pool family

The tragic story of the two kids and dad dying in the swimming pool on holiday is an odd story.
The mum is saying they were all strong swimmers and there must have been an issue with the pool.
Why type of issue would hold three strong swimmers, one a grown man and the other a 16yo boy under the water for so long as to drown?

I learned to swim in the sea, probably because it's more buoyant than a swimming pool

Had regular swimming lessons from probably age 5 or so but didn't really learn to really survive in the water until doing so in the river around canoeing in Cubs and Scouts. Tipping a canoe in white water a few times teaches you a lot.
First time swimming in ocean was a new experience again, much later.

I learn't to swim by the old man throwing me into a swimming pool and telling me to start splashing (you could do that sort of thing in the 80's); worked for me but don't recommend it as a method of teaching your child\\children to swim.

We did weekly lessons at Hornchurch swimming pool at junior school. However, I actually learnt to swim at a holiday park called Potters. Must have swam my first length there around 7 or 8 I am guessing.

I remember seeing something on TV a while ago where it was intimated that parents of those with afro hair do not encourage their kids to go to school swimming lessons (as I had them) because drying the hair and getting the chlorine out is a bit of a mare.
Hence why some afro haired people smell of coconut type hair products - the afro tourist in the BB stand a couple of seats away from me had short dreadlocks and fucking stank at the Bournmouth game of that kind of shite!!!

I agree but like I said if mum or dad don't swim they are very unlikely to be confident in teaching you to swim

There was an article on the massive drop in schools doing swimming lessons I read a couple of months back. Obviously there are exceptions.

You don’t need lessons to learn how to swim
You just need regular exposure to build confidence in water and a mum or dad who will help you

The best way to teach a child to swim, is to get them some diving fins. When my daughter was young, when she tried swimming her legs were going in a cycling motion that actually pushed her backwards, got her some fins so she started to kick properly, she was swimming within 24 hours and got rid of the bad habit, then just cut the fins down.

Swimming lessons near me in Barkingside about £60 for 12 30min sessions - and they offer 1-2-1 sessions- obviously a lot more though, so not really expensive

My dad fell through the floor of a derelict house when a kid into a basement full of water, nearly drowned, so mum took us kids swimming. Dad was always petrified after that and never learned, even though he built and had his own pool for 15 years.

I was paying about six quid a lesson for the kid to learn to swim. Local council scheme. She went there every week from age 6 to 11. Ended up on the diving course and packed it in when they redeveloped the pool with no diving boards. Council fuckwits.
Worth every penny. I'd say making sure your kid can swim is almost as important as feeding and clothing them.
